Carlon Plastics is 60

We couldn’t let this February pass without sharing our great achievement with everyone; which is that Carlon Plastics has now been in business for 60 years.

It’s hasn't always been plain sailing, we’ve seen many of our suppliers and customers come and go over the years and some have nearly taken us down with them, but we are still here and very proud of what we have built over the last 60 years.

Amazingly Karl Hohn who founded Carlon plastics has just celebrated his 92nd birthday. Although retired now, Karl did continue to work well into his 70’s and still takes a really keen interest in what the next generation are doing. Originally from Germany, Karl got his first taste of life in Leicester as a P.O.W. Not the best start but he was really impressed and thought it was a beautiful city. Once the war was over and he had made the decision to stay Karl was employed as a carpenter but spent most of his time in the plastics workshop where he learnt about vacuum forming and injection moulding. With plastic fabrication a fairly new concept and plastic firms in short supply Karl made the leap and Carlon plastics was born.

Karl saw many changes in his 40 years heading up Carlon plastics and since his retirement even more so with many customers choosing the cheaper option of overseas suppliers. Carlon have stayed to true to their beginnings, offering good quality materials and excellent craftmanship and although still a family run business many of Carlon’s workers have been here just as long.
